High-quality materials

 

In order to guarantee the LNG cold temperature of -160 °C, high-quality insulation is essential. We apply multiple layers of insulation systems, consisting of polyisocyanurate rigid foam or cellular glass insulation, in combination with vapour barriers to produce the necessary degree of insulation.

Mechanical and weather protection of the installed cryogenic insulation is achieved by the application of cladding materials, which may be stainless steel, but also aluminised steel or UV-resistant GRP.

Polyisocyanurate (PIR) rigid foam is produced specifically for LNG insulation systems. Because it is used for pipes, equipment and storage tanks, it has the required mechanical properties to cope with the thermal stresses involved.

Cellular glass insulation is also used for the cryogenic insulation of pipes, equipment, storage tanks and ships. Cellular glass is a lightweight material, consisting of millions of packed glass cells.

 

Industry standards as benchmarks

 

This cryogenic insulation is used for on-site insulation applications on pipes and equipment as well as its off-site pre-insulation. The insulation is applied in accordance with the specifications of the LNG industry standards, including those of Shell DEP, CINI and Chevron.

Cryogenic insulation is always installed by operatives fully trained in the application of LNG insulation. Strict quality control procedures are always followed during installation.
